Saint Columba, also known as Colum Cille, or Chille (Old Irish, meaning 'dove of the church'), Colm Cille (Irish), Calum Cille (Scottish Gaelic), Columb Killey (Manx Gaelic) is thought to have been born on the 7 December 520 or 521AD near Gartan, which was part of Tyrconnell (Irish: Tír Chonaill), now in modern County Donegal, in Ireland. This year we celebrate the 1500th Anniversary of his birth.
Our parish will celebrate the Feast Day of our Patron Saint this Wednesday, June 9 at the 7:00 am Mass and at all Masses next weekend. Prayers will be offered asking the Intercession of St. Columba, and on Sunday we will use the Mass Readings from the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B).
